The teledentistry conference allows a unique opportunity to deal with several issues including access to underserved populations, manpower shortages, and public education. The conference also allows the merging of these issues with those related to commercialization of new products and technologies including telecommunications technologies, products and technologies needed for delivery of supervised health care, increased professional market share, and allowing services to be delivered at lower costs.
Although teledentistry technology appears ideal to perform this linkage, evidence that demonstrates that teledentistry improves access, reduces cost and affects the quality of care is fragmented and distributed among several federal departments, academic institutions, industry research centers and professional associations.
This symposium will serve as a venue for such topics as the experience of the US Army with teledentistry and a review of new products and procedures suitable for use with teledentistry.
This symposium is co-sponsored by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, GC America, GC Asia and GC Corporation, Tokyo Japan.
